Since U MAIN embarked on the adventure of helping to re-humanize our relationship to food by involving our hands in the food-making process, many have asked us if it is possible to make vegetable cheeses at home.
What is a vegetable cheese?
Vegetable cheese, also called faux-mage , is cheese made from milk or a material that is not of animal origin. Thus, vegetable cheese is not made from cow's, goat's or sheep's milk, but from nuts, seeds, soy beverage or even peas! The faux-mages are especially savored by people on a vegan diet, by lactose or casein intolerant people or simply by anyone wishing to discover delicious culinary novelties!
That's why U MAIN is proud to announce that it is now possible to make ricotta made from pea or soy beverage as well as melted mozzarella and cheddar cheese made from sunflower seeds, almonds or cashews in just 30 minutes thanks to its 3 Vegan Cheese Kit !
A little more about ricotta: we recently discovered that it is possible to make it based on pea drink. It's simply delicious and extremely creamy. Soy and pea beverages yield impressive amounts of ricotta. Indeed, with 4 liters of these drinks, we will obtain almost a kilo of ricotta cheese. Once made, ricotta will keep for about 10 days in the refrigerator. It is possible to season it to your taste by adding the spices of your choice. We recommend the vegan ricotta with cumin and pepper, it's a real treat!
Soy and pea ricotta is as versatile as animal milk ricotta! Indeed, it is possible to eat it cold on bread, with fruit and vegetables, or to cook it and use it in hot dishes such as cannelloni, lasagna, stuffed pancakes or even savory pies!
So, when will you have your first home-made faux-mage ?
