For the “bloody” tomato sauce
Ingredients :
-
1 tablespoon of olive oil
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
1 clove of garlic, minced
-
1 cup of crushed (or chopped) tomatoes
-
½ tsp dried oregano
-
Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation :
-
In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
-
Add the onion and sauté for 2–3 minutes, until it becomes translucent.
-
Add the garlic, sauté for 1 minute, then add the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt and pepper.
-
Simmer over low heat for 5 to 10 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
-
Keep it warm while you prepare the witch fingers.
For the halloumi witch fingers
Ingredients :
-
1 block of homemade halloumi (approximately 250–300 g)
-
¼ cup of flour
-
1 beaten egg
-
½ cup of breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
-
Frying oil (vegetable or canola)
-
A few slivered almonds (or whole almonds cut in half, for the "nails")
Preparation :
-
Cut the halloumi into sticks approximately 1 cm x 8–10 cm. Trim one end to a point to give the appearance of a finger.
-
Coat each stick: first in flour, then in beaten egg, and finally in breadcrumbs. Press firmly to ensure adhesion.
-
Heat about 2 cm of oil in a pan over medium-high heat.
-
Fry the fingers in small batches for 1 to 2 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
-
Drain on absorbent paper.
-
While they are still warm, stick a slivered almond to the pointed end (the heat will hold the nail in place).
💀 Assembly
Place the fingers on a plate and serve the sauce in a small bowl. For an even more "bloody" effect, pour a little tomato sauce onto the tip of each finger.
Serve hot, while the breading is still nice and crispy!
